Why you shouldn't draft Brandon Aiyuk in fantasy football this season

07/26/2024

Brandon Aiyuk was one of the best receivers in football last season, and was a huge reason why they made it to the Super Bowl. He also was a major help to all fantasy managers that drafted him, as he was a top-15 fantasy receiver last season. But, we are going to be going through why you should NOT draft Brandon Aiyuk in this years fantasy football draft.

Last season with the 49ers, Aiyuk caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, for an impressive 17.9 yards/reception. He was the WR1 on a team with Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, which goes to show how good he was last season. He ranked 14th in PPR scoring format leagues in points scored by a wide receiver, even though he missed a game. He averaged 15.6 points per game in PPR, and about 11.5 in standard leagues.

If Aiyuk was so good last season, then why are we telling you not to draft him? It's because it is most likely that the 49ers trade him. There are rumors swirling around everywhere, but the main thing is that the 49ers can't pay Brandon Aiyuk, even though he wants to stay. But, if he doesn't get paid then he's not going to stay.

He requested a trade from the 49ers, and even though he showed up to training camp, there is still a chance that he doesn't play in a 49ers jersey this season. The most likely option for Aiyuk is the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they aren't very content at the receiver spot and they have the picks to trade for Aiyuk. If this happens, his production will drop severely as he will downgrade from Brock Purdy to Russell Wilson, his supporting cast won't even be as close as good, and he won't have the mastermind Kyle Shanahan calling his plays for him.

Though, if Aiyuk falls to you at the 40th pick, you should probably still draft him. But we think that his predictions as somewhere in the low 20s is just outrageous because of where he is at in the offseason and his relationship with the team.
