Why you need to trade for Jordan Montgomery right now
Jordan Montgomery signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks right before the MLB season started, and he has only had one start so far, which is why he's only rostered in 82% of leagues despite him playing well last season. The truth is, the time is now to trade for Jordan Montgomery before he takes off.
Once Montgomery gets back into pitching shape and into the rotation again, we project him to be the second guy in the rotation right behind their ace Zac Gallen. Montgomery last season after being traded to the Rangers halfway through the seasonplayed excellent as he ended up being a top 10 pitcher after the deadline. Montgomery showed this in his first start as he pitched 6 innings, threw three strikeouts and only gave up four hits. This performance equated to 18 for Montgomery, which is great for his first start.
One guy we would advise to trade Montgomery for is Cole Ragans, and other pitchers on the same tier as Montgomery, which would be a B tier pitcher. We advise Ragans because the young pitcher will be a great pitcher in the future, but he just hasn't put all the pieces together, and therefore just will not be as valuable as he could be. We would also trade Ronel Blanco and even Tanner Houck for Jordan Montgomery, even though both guys have had very hot starts to the season, we expect in the long run that Montgomery outlasts them and is better.
If your league is one of the about 20% that Jordan Montgomery isn't rostered in, we suggest to pick him up right now. We would bid anywhere from 5-10 FAAB on him, which just shows how valuable he is when most leagues only have 250 FAAB. Some players that can be dropped for Montgomery are pitchers such as Alex Lange or Griffin Canning, who were drafted arounf 150th and 200th overall, and just have not been very good this year. Lange is averaging 0.9 and Canning is averaging about -9 points per game. Jordan Montgomery is a player to not be taken lightly, and to be added to your roster in whichever way you please.
