Why Rome Odunze could be a top 20 WR this year

04/25/2024

Rome Odunze just got selected ninth overall to the Chicago Bears to pair up with the first overall pick Caleb Williams, and Odunze is getting none of the spotlight because of Caleb Williams and fellow wide receiver Malik Nabers. Well, we are here to tell you why Rome Odunze could be a top 20 receiver and have a breakout year in fantasy football.

Last season at Washington, Odunze had 92 receptions, 1,640 yards, and 13 touchdowns for an average of 17.8 yards per reception. Odunze is going from stud college quarterback to stud college quarterback, as last season he had the 8th pick Michael Penix Jr. throwing him the ball, and this upcoming season he will have the star of the draft and the number one pick Caleb Williams passing him the rock.

This Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze duo could be a great duo for years to come and for one reason. Who are DB's gonna guard? This Bears offense, if they can improve their line, will be near impossible to defend. Opposing defenses will have to decide between doubling D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and now Rome Odunze. Both Moore and Allen had over 1,200 receiving yards last season, and Odunze is just a freak of nature athlete. Coming in at 6'3", 215 pounds, its going to drive defenses crazy having to guard all three of them.

Rome Odunze has the potential to be a top 20 wide receiver this year in fantasy, but he needs to do multiple things. First, he needs to not get injured. Second, he needs to take advantage of his position here in Chicago and try and learn from the veteran receivers in front of him. And lastly, he needs to make friends with Caleb Williams. We know this sounds crazy, but most of the best quarterback to receiver duos start just because they are friends. Tom Brady and Julian Edelman's football bond which lead them to winning two Super Bowls together started just because Edelman followed Brady in the offseason and worked out with him. If Odunze is smart, he will try and workout with Williams all offseason, so they are locked in on the upcoming season together. If Odunze does all these things, he will be a top 20 fantasy wide receiver this season.
