Why Maryland is going to the Final Four

03/18/2025

Do we even have to say those three little words? March is finally here, and with that comes the most glorified three week tournament in sports history: MARCH MADNESS. In today's article we are going to be going through why Maryland, a 4 seed in this upcoming tournament, is going to the Final Four and possibly the National Championship.

Maryland finished the regular season with a 25-8 record with a 14-6 BIG10 record, good enough for second in the conference. In the conference tournament, they ended up losing to the eventual champions, Michigan, by just one point. Their best player, Derik Queen, was named BIG10 Freshman of the Year and averaged 16.6 points along with nine rebounds and two stocks a game.

The main reason that we think Maryland is going to the Final Four is because of the draw. Even though the West division is arguably the toughest, Maryland got the lucky side of it apparently because they have to play Grand Canyon in round one, and either a struggling Memphis team or the 12 seed in Colorado State, If they win those two, they'll get to play a Florida team fatigued after playing UConn, or play UConn themselves. If they win that, it's either a St. John's team who can't shoot the ball very well or Texas Tech, who is very beatable.

Another reason that Maryland is going to the Final Four is simply because they are just really really good. Ranked 12th in the NET rankings, they have the 28th ranked offense and the 6th ranked defense in college basketball. Along with this, they push tempo really well and don't turn the ball over at all. The only problem I could think of with this Maryland team is the lack of tournament experience, with none of their top three scorers being seniors, and their best overall player being a freshman. But in conclusion, Maryland will be going to the Final Four this season and busting a lot of brackets.

THIS. IS. MARCH. There, I said it.
