Who should be the number one overall pick in fantasy basketball this season?
The season is already back! The NBA starts in a little over a week, and there is many possible answers for who the number one pick should be. There are multiple answers, like Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, or even Luka Doncic. In this article, we're going to be going through which choice is the right pick and why it's not the others.
Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic is coming fresh off a finals run with the Mavericks, and he is looking to pounce this season. Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists last season with Dallas, and was our Fantasy Basketball Player of the Year in 2023. But alas, there is a new season upon us and we have to ask the question: Will he keep this up? The answer is yes of course and he makes a very strong case to be the number one pick.
Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic got his third MVP in four seasons last year, and he is not looking to slow down anytime soon. Currently ranked as ESPN.com's suggested first overall pick, Jokic seems to be the obvious pick. He averaged stats of 26.4/12.4/9 last season where the Nuggets ended up losing in the second round to the Timberwolves. Now with added motivation and the same core of guys, nothing is stopping Jokic from getting his fourth MVP in five years.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Shai is a little bit of a frisky pick for the number one spot, but nonetheless still very deserving of it. He led the Thunder to the best record in the West while averaging 30.1/5.5/6.2 with two steals and a block per game. Shai is in his prime with two seasons in a row with averaging over 30 points per game and being top 5 in MVP voting, and now nothing is holding him back. If you want to get fun and be watch your fantasy players play exciting basketball, you'll want to pick Shai with your first overall pick.
So, after going through the top three candidates for the number one pick, the question still stands. Who should it be? Well, the real answer is, any of the guys mentioned. They all make there own case for the top spot, with Luka's insane statistics, Jokic's positional value at the center spot or Shai's exciting way of playing the game. Either way, have a great season!
