Where to draft Caleb Williams in fantasy football

04/29/2024

Caleb Williams is highly considered as one of the best prospects in the last decade, and it no surprise why. But, in fantasy football, many managers are confused on where to draft him. Thats where we come in and tell you where you should precisely draft Caleb Williams this year.

In the last two seasons at USC, Caleb Williams has thrown 8200 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. He also has rushed for 518 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has shown his dominance over the college football world in the past two seasons, and it has payed off as he has won the Heisman Award. There were many talks about Williams entering the NFL Draft after last season, but he came back to USC and after this year he finally decided to declare.

This season, we project Caleb Williams to have a historic season for a rookie. Our projections show that he will throw around 3,900 passing yards, placing him sixth on the passing yards record for rookies. We also predict him to throw around 38 touchdowns, shattering the past record for most passing touchdowns by a rookie, set by Justin Herbert at 31. He has the weapons to complete it with Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, and newly drafted receiver Rome Odunze.

This statline from Williams would place him right around the 7-8th best quarterback in fantasy football this season. He certainly has the upside for being a top 5 quarterback. The problem is that Williams, like most rookies, is high risk, high reward. He could end up with a rookie season like C.J. Strouds last season or Trevor Lawrence in 2021, or end up like Ryan Leaf. The only difference between all these guys and Williams is that his ceiling is way higher and his floor is lower. Some critics are comparing him to Peyton Manning after all.

Williams should be picked anywhere from rounds 5-7 this year, just off his potential alone. Being about the 7th quarterback off the board, we predict he will probaly go closer to round 7 then round 5. But, don't underestimate him. Williams is widely considered as the best quarterback prospect since Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence. Once Williams gets into his groove, the league is in trouble, and so is your fantasy league because you knew to add him to your roster.
