Waiver Wire Pickups: Fantasy Baseball Edition- Week of 5/6

05/08/2024

Welp, there is another week of fantasy baseball, and with that, comes another week of five waiver wire pickups that you need on your team. This is the sixth edition of this, and our hope is for it to last the rest of the year into the playoffs.

#5- Luis Gill SP (20.5%)

Luis Gill is only rostered in about 20% of leagues this year, but we don't know why. He has had a roller coaster of a season, with games of 27 and 22, but also performances of -10 and -5. Gil would be a great pitcher for your bench and could help your team out a lot. You have to be smart with him though, because he might have a few bad games, but overall he could be a big help

#4- Nick Lodolo SP (57.1%)

Nick Lodolo suffered a calf injury for the first two weeks of the season, but once he came back he has been great. He is already the 22nd ranked starting pitcher, which is incredible for missing half of the season so far. So far, Lodolo has only had two bad starts against the Orioles and against the Phillies where he had -6 and -3. But, we think Lodolo will be a safe pickup for your team, as the Reds pitcher is averaging 13.8 points per game.

#3- Josh Smith SS (24.7%)

Josh Smith can be an utility guy for your roster since he plays shortstop, third base, and outfield. This year, Smith is ranked as the ninth best shortstop in fantasy with an average of 4.5 points per game. With a total of 157 points this year, he can be very dangerous this year for your team. Looking at his game log, he seems to be a very consistent player with not many games with multiple strikeouts, and he only has 22 strikeouts this year.

#2- John Means SP (19.1%)

John Means might be the best pitcher available in free agency right now. In his only start so far this season, Means has 7 innings pitched, only three hits given up, zero earned runs, and eight strikeouts. His next start is on Saturday, May 11 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. If Means keeps up even half of this performances for the remainder of the year, then he will easily be a top-15 pitcher in fantasy baseball, a a big help to your team.

#1- Andy Pages OF (32.7%)

Andy Pages got called up almost three weeks ago on April 16th, and since then he has been great. He is averaging about 6.4 points per game, which would put him in the top-5 for outfielders. Since his call up with 73 ABs, he's batting .315 with 23 hits and 14 runs scored. He also five doubles and four home runs. Along with the .315 batting average, he also has .342 OBP and a .890 OPS and nine extra base hits. Pages has a total of 115 fantasy points this year in just 19 games, and also 41 points in the last week. If you pick him up now, he will be a major help to your team and help you get to the fantasy championship.
