Waiver Wire Pickups: Fantasy Baseball Edition- Week of 5/20

05/23/2024

Welp, there is another week of fantasy baseball, and with that, comes another week of five waiver wire pickups that you need on your team. This is now the eighth edition of this, and our hope is for it to last the rest of the year into the playoffs.

#5-Bryan Woo SP (32.4%)

Bryan Woo was just listed as the Strictly Fantasy Player of the Week, so if you want to see that, click this link. But, Woo has been a very solid player in his last three starts and is somehow only rostered in 32% of leagues. This season, Bryan Woo has 15.2 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts, only two walks, a fabulous 0.57 ERA and a 0.51 WHIP, along with a 2-0 record. The only downside is that he is in a stacked Mariners rotation, and is currently fifth in the rotation.

#4- David Fry C (12.1%)

David Fry has moved into the starting position for the Guardians, and he has not disapointed. He is batting .346/.486/.590 with five home runs this season. He is already ranked as the 12th best catcher in fantasy with an average of 5.1 points per game. He has been going off in this past week, with having batting splits of .636/.765/1.182.

#3- Kevin Pillar OF (11.0%)

Kevin Pillar has been one of the best outfielders in the past two weeks, and no one has seemed to notice as he is only rostered in 11% of leagues.  Pillar this season has only had 73 at bats, but he has made the most of those at bats. He has been batting .333/.395/.625 this season so far and has also hit five home runs and has 21 RBIs. Pillar is averaging 5.1 points per game and is also already top twenty for all outfielders despite having half the at-bats.

#2- Alek Manoah SP (20.3%)

Alek Manoah was also featured in a Strictly Fantasy article this week, called Is Alek Manoah back to his usual self? In that article, we went over how good Manoah's start was on May 19th, where he struck out seven and only gave up one hit the entire game. In that start, Manoah had 30 fantasy points which put him at two straight starts without a negative fantasy performance. If he can go on a run of a couple successful starts, then he can be a great asset to his team.

#1- Luis Matos OF (21.9%)

Luis Matos has been unstoppable in this past couple of weeks. In fact, he won the MLB Player of the Week, alongside Aaron Judge. In these past two weeks, Matos has been averaging a whopping 8.9 points per game, which would put him first out of all batters. Also, he is batting .325/.341/.550 with two home runs and 18 RBIs, all in the last two weeks. We can not state enough how much your teams needs Matos, so pick him up before it is to late.
