Paul Skenes amazing performance puts the MLB on notice
On Friday, May 17th, Paul Skenes pitched in just his second career MLB game, and it was nothing short of spectacular. He put the whole league on notice in this game, and also got the attention to all fantasy managers who still haven't picked up the best pitching prospect in the last five seasons.
Skenes first game went a but rocky against the Chicago Cubs, as he only threw four innings, giving up six hits, two walks and three earned runs. The bright spot in this performance is that he threw for seven strikeouts this game, and showed some signs of potential throughout all 84 pitches that he threw against the Cubs. He was then scheduled to make his next start on Friday May 19, again pitching against the Chicago Cubs.'
Once Skenes shook the nerves out of his system in his iffy first start, he showed why he got called up so early in the first place. He threw six innings, giving up no hits, no earned runs, and only one walk. He did this all while throwing 11 strikeouts, and he was so close to breaking a record going back all the way too 1884, with the most strikeouts to start a single game.
The record, set by Mickey Welch, is nine straight strikeouts to start a game and Paul Skenes had seven straight in just his second career start! He finished the game after six innings and finished with a solid 34 fantasy points on the day. Skenes is scheduled to make his next start on Thursday May 23, against the San Francisco Giants, and he looks for an exact replica of the pitching performance he had on Friday.
