Paul George signing with the 76ers: How does this affect their fantasy value?

07/05/2024

Paul George just recently signed with the 76ers and this will likely be the blockbuster signing of the summer. George is teaming alongside fellow stars Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, forming an incredible big three. Now that he's there, how will he perform and how will his fantasy value be?

Last season on the Los Angeles Clippers, George dropped 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while having shooting splits of 47/41/91. Even though he was still an All-Star, he is still a shell of his former self. In 2019, he finished third in MVP voting averaging 28-8-4 with two steals a game. He also finished third in DPOY and finished with All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team.

We suggest that you do NOT pick Paul George this year. This will be the first time in his career that he is the third option on his team, and at his age 34 season we just don't know how he will play and mesh with Embiid and Maxey. Injuries will also be a huge problem for George, as he has only played 60+ games in a season twice in the last six seasons. Pairing him with another injury-prone star like Embiid was not the greatest move for the Sixers and might bite them in the back towards in the end of the year.

George is listed at the 27th ranked player in roto leagues but we wouldn't draft him that high. If anything, we would pick him towards the 47-50 range, behind Zach Lavine, Jrue Holiday, Julius Randle and Walker Kessler. With his injury history and now being the third option on the team, we just don't see why you need to draft him that high.

Now, we will be going over how George's insert to the team will impact the other stars fantasy value in Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. On Maxey's side, we don't think that adding Paul George will really affect his growth as he already averaged 26 PPG last season, we predict he will be around the same points this year. But, with Embiid we might see some slight decrease. Instead of averaging 35 points per game, he might average around 30-ish. Nonetheless, Paul George's move to Philly will not get them over the hump, and he will not be a top-25 player in roto fantasy leagues.
