Luis Arráez has been struggling so far offensively; Should managers be worried?
Arráez has won two batting titles over the last two years, two straight All-Star appearances, and two straight Silver Sluggers. Last year, he batted a career high .354 from behind the plate and a .394 OBP. He even was batting close to the inprobable .400 BA for most of last season. This was the best year of his career and it was just fun to watch. But, Arráez has gotten off to a rocky start this year, with zero hits in 10 at bats so far, and only one walk. The question for fantasy managers all across the globe is, should you trade Luis Arráez?
Last Season
Last year, Arráez started off the season on a five game hitting streak. In those five games, he had 11 hits, which is incredible to start off a season. It doesn't end there though, as Arráez's batting average never drops below .427 for the entire month of April. By game 51 and the end of May, Arráez finally slows down with his batting average being at .381. Then, in June, he goes on a 11 game hitting streak where he had a total of 23 hits. He was averaging over two hits per game for those eleven games, which is just wild, and fantasy managers around the world were rejoicing.
After this hot streak in June, Arráez settled down to just having a normal back half of the year, and finished out the season with 203 hits and batting .354, both ended up helping him get the batting title and a Silver Slugger. The thing about this season is, his batting average never dropped below .348 for the entire year, which is insane when you think about it. He also only had 34 strikeouts all year. Arráez's 2023 season was one to remember, and will definitely will go down in the record books.
Start Of This Season
In two games so far this year, Arráez has went a whopping 0-10 with one walk. This might worry managers that have Arráez in their lineup, but heres what were telling you to do. DO NOT TRADE HIM. Not yet anyway, if we're here at the end fof April talking about Luis Arráez's less than impressive .234 or .258 batting average, go right away and trade him. But right now, just wait on him. Only trade Arráez if the deal is too good to be true, and if your getting great value from it. Otherwise, Arráez might just be human and having back-to-back bad games is part of that. Come time when August and September rolls around for the fantasy playoffs, you're going to be glad that you didn't freak out and trade Arráez at the start of the year.
