Justin Steele's injury: Who's up next for the Cubs?

03/30/2024

Justin Steele went down with a Grade 1 hamstring injury on Opening Day, as the Cubs lost 4-3 to the Texas Rangers in extra innings. He is out on the 15-day IL, and likely to be out for at least a month. The Cubs starting rotation is starting to look a little rocky, but these guys are about to be getting a shot to prove that they are capable of being the top pitchers for a team. I would try to add these pitchers onto your roster using any way possible if you can.

Kyle Hendricks (2.9%)

Hendricks had a tough outing on Friday, where he had given up nine hits and five earned runs, while striking out and walking two for a total of about -25 fantasy points. Hendricks will have to step it up if he wants to be the number one guy for this team as the Cubs also have Shota Imanaga and Jordan Wicks ready at a moments notice to be the number one pitcher on the Cubs. But, we predict that Hendricks will have a bounce back game during his next appearance on April 5.

Shota Imanaga (61.0%)

Shota Imanaga might be the pitcher on the Cubs with the most potential. We have yet to see him pitch a game yet though, but we can only predict good things from him this year. He has shown bright potential in Spring Training so far with 25 strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched. Even with us predicting for Hendricks to have a bounce back game, we predict for Imanaga to pass him in the rotation and to be the number two guy once Steele comes back.

Jordan Wicks (4.6%)

Wicks has not pitched a game yet this season, but will start tomorrow against the Rangers on Easter Sunday. Wicks right now is third in the starting rotation due to the Steele injury, and he is looking to get more starts in the next month because of it. The southpaw has been playing great in Spring Training, with a 2.20 ERA and an impressive 12:2 strikeout to walk ratio over 17.1 innings.
