How will Dejounte Murray fair off on the Pelicans in fantasy basketball?
On June 28, Dejounte Murray got traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the New Orleans Pelicans for two first-round picks, Larry Nance Jr, Dyson Daniels and E.J. Liddell. This is a move from Atlanta that we all saw coming, but not really to the Pelicans. Now that he's here, we're going to be going over his fantasy potential in fantasy basketball this season.
Last season with the Hawks, Murray averaged 22.5 rebounds, 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists shooting 46% from the field and 36% from the three point line. He was second in command in the Hawks behind their star point guard Trae Young, and it was very clear that the offense was just not clicking with them. The Hawks have not made it to the second round since the 2020-21 season where Young lead the team to the Conference Finals.
The truth is, this is a great move for Murray, especially for his state in fantasy basketball. Statistically speaking, his best season came in the 2021-22 season, in which he was selected to the All-Star team and led the league in steals. Now with the Pelicans, he can command the offense alongside Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. So, we predict that Murrays fantasy value will improve by a lot this upcoming season.
But, the problem with this is that we expect Zion and Brandon Ingram's fantasy value to decrease slightly. That will happen with all Big 3s, because the points will be spread out more evenly. So don't expect Zion and Ingram to surprise everyone and go back to having 25 PPG seasons. The reason that we think Murray's value will increase is that the point guard will lead the offense, so we predict a career high in assists for Dejounte Murray this season.
