Five Busts to Avoid this season in Fantasy Baseball

03/03/2025

Jacob deGrom- SP (TEX)

deGrom is just not going to work this season with his old age and injuries. He hasn't even hit 100 innings since 2019. deGrom has had constant problems in his shoulder and his elbow, and coming off his Tommy John surgery we just can't draft him this season, especially at his ADP. He's going in round five this season and is inside the top 15 pitchers. With his injury history though, don't be surprised if Jacob deGrom doesn't finish out the season.

Mark Vientos- 3B (NYM)

In the first half of last season, Vientos was electric and was playing very well. He was hitting home runs and wasn't strikeout out. The second half though, wasn't as lucky. His Strikeout Rate soared up to 33%, and hit .256. The 25 year old is going as the seventh third basemen off the board in most leagues, where we just don't think that will happen.

Willy Adames- SS (SF)

Coming in as the tenth shortstop off the board, Adames may look like a steal for most managers with his career year last season and batting .251/.331/.462 and 32 home runs. Also, he was the fourteenth best hitter in fantasy baseball last season. But, this season he isn't in a hitter friendly ballpark and a brand new organization. By no means are we saying that Willy Adames will be bad next season, but just not a top 70 overall player like he's being drafted.

Ronald Acuña Jr.- OF (ATL)

With more coverage coming of Acuña's injury, it looks like he won't play until May, at the earliest. It's very hard to draft a player so high when the start date of his season remains unknown. And even though in his last full healthy season he won the NL MVP, we just don't know how long he is going to be sidelined for. Acuña's ADP is at around 30 right now, which we believe is just a bit too high for him.

Felix Bautista- RP (BAL)

At this time last season, Bautista was getting drafted as high as 60th overall in drafts. This season, he's going at around 85, and even we expect that's going to be too high for him. Like Acuña, he also is recovering from an injury. Bautista is recovering from a Tommy John surgery, and even though he is likely to be a Opening Day starter, we don't know how he will look this season.
