DeAndre Hopkins traded to the Chiefs: How will this affect fantasy?
Earlier today, DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a fifth round pick that could turn into a fourth round pick. This trade affects the Chiefs receiving core heavily as their primary receiver Rashee Rice, is out for the season with his knee injury. But, let's break it down for you. How will this trade affect fantasy football?
This trade is huge for DeAndre Hopkins fantasy owners as he moves from a low end WR5 to a low end WR3. This actually makes Hopkins startable for the first time so far this season. So far this season, Hopkins has 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown on the season, but these statistics will all vastly improve with having Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback instead of Will Levis.
Xavier Worthy's production will unfortunately decrease following this trade for Hopkins. We suggest that you do not start Worthy again this season as he now moves to the third best pass catcher on his team, on a year where Mahomes is struggling already to get it to his top options. Worthy has 15 receptions for 198 yards and two touchdowns on the season, and he has been disapointing for all of the people who thought he was the steal of the draft.
Lastly, Travis Kelce's production will decrease after this move, but not as much as Worthy's will. Kelce has always been Mahomes best pass catcher, but this year it seems as if old age has caught up to him. Kelce has 28 receptions for 245 yards and still no touchdowns on the year, and it is looking as if it might be the first bad year in a while for Kelce. He is currently ranked as the 15th best tight end in fantasy football, but only averaging 8.8 points per game. Alas, this DeAndre Hopkins trade will be good for the Chiefs as a whole, but not for certain receivers.
